Are you considering this course?
This course is tailored for engineering staff who are required to operate and maintain under a safe system of work and be in receipt of a Permit-to-Work or Standing Instruction for work on boiler or other mechanical systems that store pressure.
Course Objective:
The primary goal of this course is to equip you with the necessary knowledge and documentation skills to operate safely within the prescribed systems of work for boiler and stored pressure mechanical systems containing relevant fluids, as defined by the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR).
The course also focuses on the safe systems of work as stipulated by JSP375 Part 2, Volume 3, Chapter 4 (Mechanical Systems), which is widely adopted throughout industry as best engineering safe practice for pressure systems.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Understand the technical aspects of specific types of equipment and systems which incorporate relevant fluids, as outlined in the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000.
- Understand how the fundamental physical properties of relevant fluids correspond to the limits and ranges of measured parameters.
- Recognise key components and safety features commonly found in stored pressure mechanical systems.
- Identify, record and address hazards & risks using appropriate risk assessment documentation for tasks relating to pressure systems.
- Identify the various isolation methodologies for pressure systems which comply with HSG253: The Safe Isolation of Plant and Equipment.
- Understand and source information pertaining to operational arrangements, safety procedures, and documentation for safe isolation and systems of work (in accordance with JSP 375, Vol 3, Chapter 4).
- Comprehend the defined roles and primary responsibilities of an Authorised Person, Skilled Person and the Person in Charge in relation to Mechanical and Pressure Systems.
- Interpret a Safety Program and Statement of Isolation effectively.
- Successfully receipt and complete the necessary documentation for safe systems of work (in accordance with JSP 375, Vol 3, Chapter 4).
- Identify relevant statutory publications pertaining to mechanical systems that store pressure.
